FISHING IN SPAIN
Fishing in Spain
Whether you are a long-time fishing enthusiast or are simply interested in trying out a new outdoor activity, if you are taking a trip to Spain, you should strongly consider fishing while you are there. Because the country of Spain offers such a diverse terrain, if you do decide that you are interested in fishing in Spain (or you simply want to find out more about what is available), there are multiple types of fishing that you will be able to choose from.
Fishing in Spain
The first type of fishing in Spain that you can enjoy is inland fishing. Spain has a numerous amount of lakes and rivers, which all provide great spots for those who want to reel in some big catches. Many of these locations can provide an excellent fly fishing experience. With inland fishing, depending on your specific location, some of the main fish that you can expect to catch include large barbel, salmon and trout. For additional inland fishing locations, you can find numerous fishing preserves throughout Spain's many nature parks.
If you want to fish off land but aren't comfortable going out on a boat, you can enjoying fishing off of one of Spain's coasts. From the Costa Blanca, you can catch fish like mackerel and big grey mullet, while fishing on the rocks of Spain's Costa Brava provides opportunities to catch pike, barbel and even eel!
For those people who don't get seasick, salt water fishing off of a boat can be an extremely fun experience. While you can catch lots of great fish throughout the inland of Spain and off of the coast, if you really want to go after the big fish, there's no substitute for a day of open sea fishing. There are lots of great open sea fishing packages available, and they will provide everything you need for your day of fishing. Once you are out on the open sea, you will have the opportunity to reel in extremely impressive swordfish. In addition to the large swordfish, you can also catch fish like big toothed pampano and blue fish. If you are a really good fisher, you may also be interested in competing in one of the many competitions held during the summer!
Finally, if you are the really adventurous type, you may be interested in trying out underwater fishing. Although it requires more knowledge and skill than most other types of fishing, if it's something you are interested in, you can learn everything you need to know in a relatively short amount of time and obtain an underwater fishing license from the local authorities where you will be performing this activity. While you can't use any scuba equipment during underwater fishing, you will be able to use a mechanical harpoon gun (along with your mask and snorkel).
Before you schedule any specific fishing activities in Spain, make sure you know what kind of license you need. Although Spain doesn't require any kind of national fishing licenses, local regions do require you to have a license if you plan on fishing.
